Pete was born in the Bronx, NY on November 22, 1945, son of Pietro and Marie DeVito. Growing up, he had 4 siblings, 2 older brothers and 2 older sisters. In 1965 Pete proudly served his Countryin the Vietnam War as a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne.
Pete was a very fortunate man in many ways. He was funny, intelligent. and always had an answer; Pete was a man that many admired, looked up to, and often turned to for advice; he was a true confidant. Shortly after selling DeVito Ford he was employed by Local 355 as a union delegate. Pete’s ability to work with others enabled him to assist in the growth of Local 35.5 and establishment of the United Services Workers of America, where he was the Executive Vice President.
Those that had the pleasure of knowing Pete however, know there was nothing he was more proud of than his family. On February 3, 1968, Pete married his best friend, Susan. Their marriage of 42 years was full of happiness; they were blessed with three children, Peter, Daniel, and Nicholas. Pete was fortunate to see all three of his children marry. There was no truer joy in his life than Pete’s six grandchildren, each held a special place in his heart. Pete passed away before the birth of his seventh grandchild, but we believe they are connected in their own special way.
Pete passed away at the age of 65. While his life was too short, he provided us with many great memories, which will stay in our hearts forever.
